  I have a favor to ask. I need to find a statement that was in one of the magazines, but I can't find it now. Can you help?

  i have a favor to ask.

  i need some information found in a watchtower that i can't seem to find in my library.

  today, the watchtower teaches that the governing body is the faithful slave.

  By 1959 it seems that the "governing body" and "the faithful and discreet slave" became synonymous. Check out the following 4 Watchtower quotations". (By the way, search your library CD with the two quoted expressions -- "governing body" "discreet slave".)

  The following Watchtower deems the two as synonymous.

  *** w59 6/15 p. 368 par. 2 Meeting Today’s Needs of the Sheep ***
  Sheep need to be fed, not only led. How are they being fed? "The faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics to give them their food at the proper time" certainly is making ample provision. The governing body of Jehovah’s visible organization supplies plenty of good food for all the sheep, including the overseers.

  The following Watchtower implies that the "slave" "has a governing body".

  *** w60 7/15 p. 438 par. 1 Staying Awake with the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" ***
  THE Biblical connections and the abundant array of Scriptural credentials of the "faithful and discreet slave" class have already been examined. This class was found to be the anointed witnesses of Jehovah operating today in all parts of the earth through their now seventy-six-year-old legal servant, the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania. This "slave" class has a governing body rendering counsel and direction as prefigured by Elihu when he gave counsel to ancient Job.

  The following Watchtower quotation equates "The Society" with the "discreet slave".

  *** w61 3/1 p. 147 par. 13 The Congregation in the Time of the End ***
  . This development was completed by 1938 when congregations world-wide expressed their wish to be organized completely under the direction of "The Society," "the faithful and discreet slave" class, who would hereafter appoint all overseers and their assistants in the congregations and who would direct all study and preaching arrangements.

  The following deems the two as synonymous.

  *** w63 9/15 p. 575 Questions From Readers ***
  Even as Jehovah had a channel to serve as an authority or governing body in the days of the apostles and following Pentecost, A.D. 33, so today Jehovah God has a governing body, a "faithful and discreet slave" class, that oversees the work of the Christian witnesses of Jehovah in the New World society.

  now this is weird, ever heard of the "mandela effect" ???

  i know how crazy it sounds but i got to tell you, this article about the governing body finally admitting the "faithful slave" was not divinely appointed by jesus in 1919 was epic to me.

  like a mandela effect feeling.

  Before we get carried away let's be clear about what actually changed. Recall that Matt.24:45-47 is the scripture under consideration.

  "Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time? Happy is that slave if his master on coming finds him doing so! Truly I say to you, he will appoint him over all his belongings."

  Watchtower is now saying that this scripture refers to two separate appointments, one over "his domestics" and the other, "all his belongings".

  In 1919, according to them, the slave was appointed over "his domestics". No change here.

  In future (the Great Tribulation), according to them, the slave will be appointed "over all his belongings". That's the change.

  I get what you're saying, that it appears that the Society's change from 1919 to the Great Tribulation went over the heads of all folks, JWs and ex-JWs.

  And, yes, I'm also certain that most -- even here -- missed its significance. Yes, I believe it's a significant change on their part.

  But not all missed it. When that article appeared, poster Legacy brought it to our attention some 3 years ago in the topic, "

  We give more to the Watchtower Society than for our local KH

  i have been doing the accounts for our local congregation now for 3 years.

  i just thought, wow our local expenses total just $500 a month, yet we have an ongoing expense each month of $600 for the kh expansion work(ie:world wide work), $60 for the traveling overseer insurance and $54 for the local kingdom hall insurance, in addition to the operating committee expense of $525.. so, our one congregation sends $714 a month plus what the publishers contribute towards the world wide work usually between $600 to $700 per month.

  in other words, we are at least sending, for our little congregation of 75 publishers, $1314 a month!

  would the jehovah`s witnesses be a shoe in , for the most about face , flip flop , of doctrine , beliefs , and practices in this 21st century , to have previously strongly held beliefs and then for them to be discarded in their 140 ?

  i've been out of watchtower for some 38 years now and i suppose the lottery is one of their nonoze.

  i have nothing morally wrong against it or anyone who enjoys doing it.

  It's up to some 800 zillion dollars now and hasn't suckered me in yet. I've been out of Watchtower for some 38 years now and I suppose the lottery is one of their NoNoze. I have nothing morally wrong against it or anyone who enjoys doing it. I hate restrictions and being told what, or what not, to do.

  I don't gamble because Charles Dickens book The Old Curiosity Shop made such an impact on me.

  If you do win, how much of the winnings will you bequeath to Watchtower's Worldwide Fund?

  Thanks all. There are several interviews with Vince. He seems like a jovial guy, must be multi-lingual (for which I'm jealous), is charismatic and is extremely knowledgeable. The interview I watched is here:
